Heard a few interviewees on radio/tv responding to the host with “我自己本身怎样怎样……”, occasionally I also hear experienced speakers doing the same. This a rather unnatural expression in Chinese because “我” ”自己” and “本身” all refer to the same subject “I”. In most cases, using two of them consecutively is redundant unless you have a special purpose in doing so. For instance:
(1) Use “我/你/他”+”自己” to place emphasis e.g “这幅画是我自己画的”、“这家公司由她自己一手创办” or to express a stronger tone often to show displeasure or authority. e.g “不麻烦你,午餐我自己会买”、“衣服你自己洗吧”、“他自己的工作让他自己做”.
(2) “本身” is often used to refer to an object or an action, so do use sparingly. e.g “公司的产品本身有一定的市场”、“喝酒本身没问题,但不要酒后开车”.
(3) Sometimes you can omit “我” in certain settings if the subject or object is clear and does not cause confusion. e.g “(我)刚在路上遇见朋友所以多聊了几句“、”老板交代的事(我)做完了“、“你的电邮(我)收到了,下班之前(我)一定回复”
